Tommy

Background

Tommy came to us as an unbroken Fell pony from the Lake District fells, native to the area. He has always been a gentle and reliable pony who prefers a quieter pace of life. He developed a long-term condition affecting his heels, caused by bacteria that took hold when he was young and living on the fells. As a result, he requires a rigorous daily treatment plan, including ongoing medical care and careful management. During wet conditions, particularly in winter, he needs to be stabled and closely monitored to keep him comfortable and healthy.

Yearly Cost of Care £5953

About

Tommy is a very photogenic boy who loves posing for the camera. He is a fantastic lesson pony thanks to his safe and steady nature, giving riders confidence and allowing them to learn at a comfortable pace. He has an especially easy trot and canter to sit to, making him a firm favourite for riders learning their first canter.

Personality Quirks

Tommy is a clever character and has worked out how to escape his stable if the extra security bolts aren’t fastened properly. Thankfully, he doesn’t go far, you’ll usually find him helping himself to the nearest hay bale. He enjoys attention and always seems to know when the camera is out.

Why we Love them

We love Tommy for his reliability, kindness, and the confidence he gives to so many riders. He requires careful daily management due to his heel condition, including regular cleaning and treatment with specialist veterinary-prescribed products. The extra care is absolutely worth it for such a genuine, talented, and much-loved member of the yard.
